2 John 4-6 – Walk in the Truth

Summary

John the Elder encourages the house-church members to continue to follow the doctrines and faith they had learned earlier and to continue in love for God and one another.

Analysis

The idea of walking in the truth is similar to the phrase walk in the light from 1 John. Walking in the way of truth leads to both joy and love, because the way of truth is the way of Jesus Christ, that is, the way of discipleship.

2 John 4-6

Truth and Love

4 I was overjoyed to find some of your children walking in the truth, just as we have been commanded by the Father. 5But now, dear lady, I ask you, not as though I were writing you a new commandment, but one we have had from the beginning, let us love one another. 6And this is love, that we walk according to his commandments; this is the commandment just as you have heard it from the beginning—you must walk in it.
