Psalm 100 – Make a Joyful Noise

Summary

People are called to praise because God is God and God is good.

Analysis

The well-known Psalm 100 continues the same theme found in Psalm 98: Make a joyful noise, worship the Lord with gladness, enter his courts with thanksgiving (vv. 1-4)! Why? Because "the Lord is God" and "the Lord is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations" (v. 5). Such a God is worthy of song and praise, and those with ears to hear can hear the applause of all creation.

Psalm 100

All Lands Summoned to Praise God

A Psalm of thanksgiving.
1 Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth.
2   Worship the Lord with gladness;
   come into his presence with singing.

3 Know that the Lord is God.
   It is he that made us, and we are his;*
   we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.

4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving,
   and his courts with praise.
   Give thanks to him, bless his name.

5 For the Lord is good;
   his steadfast love endures for ever,
   and his faithfulness to all generations.
