Ezekiel 36:16-38 - New Heart, New Spirit

Summary

Despite Israel's sin, God promises to create a new heart for this people and give them God's own spirit.

Analysis

The Lord is fully aware of Israel's sin, yet will act because of the honor of God's holy name. The exile seemed to imply that God was unable to save the people, thus defiling God's name (36:20). So God promises to gather the people from the nations. God will remove their heart of stone and give them a new heart and God's own spirit. See also 11:14-20.
