People: Absalom

Absalom

The son of King David who tried to usurp David's throne.

Background

Absalom killed his half-brother Amnon for violating his sister, then fled from Jerusalem. His father David later received him back. Despite David's forgiveness Absalom tried to usurp David's throne and forced David to flee. Absalom pursued David, but during battle Absalom was caught in a tree and David's men killed him. David wept when he heard of his son's death.
