The Philistine giant from Gath, slain by a stone from David's sling.
Goliath was a Philistine warrior of gigantic stature. He taunted the forces of Israel but no one dared to fight him. Finally the boy David accepted the challenge and went into battle with his sling and five smooth stones. As the Philistine cursed, David slung a stone that hit Goliath in the head. Goliath fell and David seized Goliath's sword and cut off his head.
